APARICIO, S. (2017). Childhood memories.
[Hand-carved oak wood floor], 676 sq ft, [Online] Available at: https://www.selvaaparicio.com/work/childhood-memories [Accessed: 17 February 2021]
This work "merges personal memory and a domestic object with larger themes of covering and exposing trauma" (Ebert, 2020).
Where is this work located? The wooden floor is an integral part of the house (is it actual for the home?), so depending on its location, the work would feel more or less present. If it's a work accomplished in the artist's family house, it presents one idea, about deep scars and trauma and revenge in a way, but if this work is carved directly in gallery's floor, it seems to refer more to homesickness and bringing childhood back to the adult life.
As artist mentions, this work refers to childhood traumas (Ebert, 2020), so, it can be connected to the themes of domestic and child abuse.
