This is a painting from A Familiar Stranger series, which consists of works based on shared memories of different people answering the question “What is one specific moment from your past that shaped who you are today?”

Marinari did not use photographs of people, who shared their memories with her in this project, as references (It's Nice That, 2021), which raises questions about connections between these portraits and stories, does it work as a mocumentary, how would it differ if the pictures had direct relevance to the subject of the story, what do indexical traces (photographical) mean in case with art? Can it refer to simulacrum - copy without the original?

This work (and the whole series) touches themes of memory, and how representation and illustration to the stories (which the artist also displays) can change the subject?
